As computer technology advances, so escalates my desire to learn more about it. Ever since I can remember, computers have been an indelible part of my life. I am truly passionate about computers, as well as the increasing need for technology in every field of study. My family, neighbors, and peers have always seen me as a great technological resource. Fellow students often approach me for technological assistance with various school projects and help in numerous other settings. Standing out at the top of my class, I easily grasp new concepts and continuously assist others with their technological needs.
As an undergraduate student at Indiana University, I have taken multiple courses relating to computers and business, as well as ones dealing with how to bridge the gap between the two in a professional environment. With regards to technology, I have been fortunate enough to acquire a great deal of knowledge on such topics as cyber-security, computer programming, networking, human-computer interaction, and database management. Pertaining to business, I have immersed myself in numerous courses relating to the subjects of finance, marketing, accounting, operations, and business law. I have found my interest in business technology grow drastically as my exposure to topics in Business increases.
I have recently accepted an Information Technology internship with CNA Financial Corporation located in Chicago, IL for this upcoming summer. This opportunity will undoubtedly provide me with practical real-world experience that will greatly benefit my preparation for graduate school. While interning, I will work with a team of peers in order to efficiently and effectively solve a professional problem presented to us by CNA. After approximately twelve weeks, my team and I will present our collaborative solution to a group of corporate executives. The opportunity to work in a professional environment will only expand upon the knowledge I have acquired while working as an Information Technology specialist in the educational sector. For the past three summers, I have worked in my high school’s IT department troubleshooting and solving technical problems experienced by school faculty and staff in person, by phone, and via email. I also assisted in the configuration of new network equipment all throughout my hometown school district. Also in high school, after noticing the unnecessarily excessive prices consumers paid for the Geek Squad’s services, I co-started a technical consulting business with a friend that offered reasonably priced technical solutions to community members and local businesses. This experience truly enhanced my leadership skills, as well as allowed me to utilize my CompTIA A+ Hardware certification to its fullest potential. My entrepreneurial venture quickly instilled in me the vital importance of effective collaboration in order to carry out challenging technological tasks.
Throughout my undergraduate academic career in the Kelley School of Business, my interest in obtaining a graduate degree in Information Systems has grown exponentially. I believe a Masters of Science in Information System obtained at Kelley School of Business will drastically improve my technical skills as well help to bridge the personal educational gap between computer technology and business. I have a large overall depth of knowledge and first-hand experiences that I have acquired through a diverse sampling of computer and business courses, as well as a true passion for all things technology. I strongly believe this graduate program will help tailor my combined interests of technology and business into a professional career.
